In pursuance of the initiative taken by the Government of India, the UGC selected Nagpur University as one of the university for establishing Gandhi Bhavan with a view to disseminate Gandhian Thought and values among the community. The university Gandhi Bhavan is situated in a spacious building specially designed for the purpose.
RTM Nagpur University could claim to be the pioneer educational institution in introducing a well-planned course on Gandhian Thought in 1979. The Department since then had the good fortune to get the services of very experienced educationists in this area. The Gandhian Thought Department of RTM Nagpur university is the only center of its kind in the entire central India.
A Humble beginning was made with P.G. Diploma in Gandhian Thought in 1979. In 1987, M.A. in Gandhian Thought course was introduced. The Department has facilities for offering Doctoral research in Gandhian Thought.
The Nagpur University was established on 4th August, 1923 with six affiliated colleges and 927 students. During 1947, the number of students increased to about 9000 accompanied by the improvement and diversification of curricula and expansion in the range of subjects.
