Brief Introduction of the Department : The Department has been founded in 1968. The existing building has 1246.20 sq. m. built up area in the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Educational Campus, Amravati Road, Nagpur. The Department of Home Science is successfully running Post Graduate Courses in Food Science & Nutrition and Resource Management and M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in all specializations in Home Science. The Department has well equipped laboratories for Nutritional Biochemistry, Advanced Nutrition, Advanced Food Science and Ergonomics.

M. Sc. Food Science & Nutrition : This course of M. Sc. Food Science & Nutrition gives students the in-depth insight of the subjects in the areas of clinical nutrition, therapeutic nutrition & community nutrition. This course is aimed to make students aware about the techniques of Food Science & current trends in the field of nutrition. This course imbibes the importance & need of research in the minds of students. This course gives avenues to students in different fields to work as clinical nutritionist, dietitian, sports & gym nutritionist, media dietitian, government health departments, public health centers, counsellor/educator/consultant, food analyst, quality control officer, food inspector, nutritional research & development, data analyst & many more.
M. Sc. Resource Management : Resource Management students have following job opportunities such as a Manager in Consumer Goods, Retail Management Unit, Assistant to Human Resource Manager in Hotels and Companies, Interior Designer, House Planner for Different Income Group, Assistant to Architect, Front Office Manager, Receptionist, House Keeping Executives, Florist, Landscape Designer, Ergonomist, Women Entrepreneur, Event Planner as well as students can go into Research & Development.
The area of academics is also available for students who qualify the NET or SET examination for various posts in the affiliated Colleges and in the University. Also, students can enroll in the Department for their doctoral research work.
The Nagpur University was established on 4th August, 1923 with six affiliated colleges and 927 students. During 1947, the number of students increased to about 9000 accompanied by the improvement and diversification of curricula and expansion in the range of subjects.
