The faculties of the department are continuously involved in the Legal Research through paper publications in reputed National Journal & Periodicals and paper presentations in various National and International Seminars.
The main thrust of the Department is on teaching of Research Methodology. The students of Masters of Law have to do two different kinds of research projects in fulfillment of their Master’s Degree in Law. One is a socio-legal research that trains them in empirical research methodology and in Fourth Semester they have to do a doctrinal research on a relevant contemporary subject wherein they are trained to develop their aptitude for research.
Research Centre:
The Department of Law is the Research Centre since its inception. It is instrumental in providing assistance to Research Scholars for completing their Ph.D. in Law. The area of ongoing research work covers a very wide arena including Business Laws, Cyber Laws, Constitutional and Administrative Laws, Labour Laws, Intellectual Property Laws, Environmental Laws, International Law, International Economic Law, International Trade Law, and Criminal Law. There are 13 Ph.D. Research Scholars registered under the Centre, 37 Ph.D. seats are vacant under the Research Centre. After the implementation of Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, currently there is one recognized supervisor to guide Ph.D. research Work in the Department.

Research Facility:
To promote and support the Research activities in RTM Nagpur University, the PGTD of Law being a Research Centre, provides in-house library for research students to enable their analytical skills by enhancing the research
The Department of Law has exclusive in house Departmental library wherein a combination of more than 1400 carefully selected traditional as well as contemporary valuable books, reference books, journals (business law, AIR, MLJ etc), periodicals, magazines etc. These are accessible by the Ph.D as well as LL.M students throughout the year. The Library consists of sitting capacity for 20 students and it is open from 9.30 a.m to 2.30 p.m. The department does have the Manupatra subscription.
The Dr. V.B. Kolte Knowledge Resource Centre (Main Library) having rich collection of Law books and Journals which is easily accessible by the PG law students as well as Ph.D scholars. The library is open from 10.00 a.m to 5.45 pm on all working days.
The Narshima Rao Digital Library of the RTM Nagpur University provides the online digital library facility to the research Scholars and LL.M students where they can access to the National Digital Library, OPAC, Online Research resources inclusive of journals, e-books, inflibnet, shodhganga etc. The Digital Library consists of sitting capacity for 40 students and it is open from 10.30 a.m to 5.30 p.m.
The PG Research Centre along with Digital Library provides high-speed free computer and internet access which helps them in browsing digital content to the research students.
COLLABORATIONS WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONS
Department is actively involved in interdisciplinary study as a result of which it collaborates with numerous agencies, organizations and institutions. The Department has entered Memorandum of Understanding with Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Lund, Sweden for Research Project on Localization of human rights in the context of SGDs. interacts with various NGOs, Police officials, Defence Services (Military and Air Force), National Human Rights Commission, State Human Rights Commission, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Intellectual Property Management etc . Department also interacts with other Post Graduate Departments of the University like Sociology, Political Science, Library Science, Economics, Education, social work and Mass Communication etc.
RIO+25 UN Water Action Decade India Program 2019 - 2020:
RIO+25 UN Water Action Decade India Program 2019 -2020 based on United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/71/222 and organized by IARF Centre of Excellence for UN Global Goals was conducted by the Department.
